Somatic Psychotherapy is a body-centred approach to healing that recognises the deep connection between the mind, body, and nervous system. While traditional talk therapy often focuses on the thinking mind, Somatic Psychotherapy also pays attention to what is happening within the body through awareness of physical sensations, movement, posture, and breath.
This approach is grounded in the understanding that trauma, stress, and emotional pain are not just psychological experiences — they are stored in the body itself. These experiences may be held in patterns of tension, contraction, numbness, or dysregulated nervous system responses that can continue long after the original event has passed. Through gentle body awareness and somatic techniques, you can begin to notice and change these patterns.
